Im unsure how this happens but, for Johnny Cash fans, regardless of the “how”, im sure they’ll be happy to hear that after more than six years now after death, he is releasing a new album featuring one of the last songs the country legend ever wrote.
American VI: “Ain’t No Grave” assumed to be his last album, will be released this Feburary 26, the 78
th anniversary of Cash’s birthday.
Like many other of his albums, this one will be heavy on acoustic guitar. Some of the songs will even include tunes written by Sheryl Crow and Kris Kristofferson as well as a gospel song previously covered by Bob Dylan.
Cash contributed to songs on this album during his last three years. The legend died on Sept. 12, 2003 of old age, just four months after his wife, June Carter Cash.
This album wasn’t the first to be released after his death, in 2006 his album “American V: A Hundred Highways” dominated the top album chart. The “American” series of albums started off in 1994 after Rubin (producer) rescued Cash from a severe case of writers block.
Soon after, the popular set of albums earned six Grammy’s and unmistakable delivered a new fan base generation drawn by the mournful covers of tunes by such artists as Beck, Nick Cave, Neil Diamond, and Depeche Mode. His biggest success was with Nine Inch Nails' Hurt, whose heartbreaking video served as a final farewell.
